Wyandanch, NY - A Wyandanch man was killed during his morning commute after he lost control of his bicycle and slid under a truck.

The accident happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. The victim has been identified as Jose Ventura, a resident of Washington Avenue in Wyandanch.

According to police, the 20-year-old man was less than a mile away from his work when the accident occurred.

Ventura worked as a receiving clerk at Linzer Products Corp in Wyandanch. He was scheduled to start a nine-hour shift at 7:45 that morning.

Ventura's route to work ran him south on North 18th Street. At the same time that morning, a Kentworth truck driving along 18th in the same direction attempted to make a right turn onto Long Island Avenue.

Ventura and his bicycle slid under the truck and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was identified as Robert Lisanti, 59, of Hauppauge, who was driving the truck and trailer for Augusiewicz Contracting, of Deer Park. The truck was impounded to undergo examination to check if there were any safety issues.

Employees at Linzer, a manufacturer of paint brushes and rollers, were shocked to hear of the accident. Ventura had been working there since July and was regarded as a helpful, friendly, and reliable employee.

Police are asking any witnesses to contact their department.
