Stratford, CT - A Milford man was arrested on a manslaughter charge Friday for his role in the fatal four-car accident occurred on the Stratford side of the Washington Bridge spanning the Housatonic River on April 27.

Nicholas Demet, 51, of Lenox Avenue, is charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Demet had previously been charged with driving under the influence of prescription drugs in connection with the accident.

In a statement released Monday police said that the warrant was a result of the investigation into the accident that killed Jonathan Ghent, 19, of Milford, on April 27.

According to the police report, the accident occurred when Demet's Dodge minivan struck the rear of a Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle.

The minivan continued pushing the Mitsubishi into the oncoming lane, where it struck Ghent's Ford Focus. A fourth vehicle, traveling in the same direction as Ghent's Ford, struck one of the other vehicles, police said.

Police said Ghent suffered severe injuries to the neck and head, his pelvis was crushed and his legs broken. Jonathan Ghent later died of injury.

A third driver, Leigh Ann Torres, of Milford, and two passengers in her vehicle, Andrea Torres and Carly Conception, were released from St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport the day after the accident.
