Baltimore Bicycle Shop Owner Dies In Accident

Westminister, MD - The owner of a Baltimore bicycle shop was killed Saturday afternoon when he ran a stop sign on his bicycle and hit a van, according to state police.

Thomas Bruni, 54, of Baltimore was traveling south on Halter Road just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, as Michael Gooch, 38, and his family were traveling west on Stone Road in a Pontiac Trans Sport van.

Bruni did not stop at a stop sign and hit the passenger side of the van in the intersection, police said.

Bruni was seriously injured and was taken to Carroll Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Bruni was the owner and designer for Baltimore's Bruni Bicycles, which makes road, mountain and tandem bicycles with price tag is $1000-$6000, police said.

Five people in the van were taken to the hospital with minor cuts and abrasions including, Wendy Gooch, 39, Isaac Gooch, 6, and Abigale Gooch, 3, of Westminster. Margaret Gooch, 80, and Carmen Gooch, 68, of Palm Coast, Florida, were also taken to the hospital.
