Iowa City, IA - A farm accident sent two Iowa men to the hospital with critical injuries.
The farm accident occurred Saturday afternoon around 3:30pm in Andover. 52-year old Dwight Johnson and 23 year old Justin Faur of Clinton fell into a liquid manure pit.
According to neighbors, Johnson was reaching for something when he fell into the pit and was quickly overcome by the noxious fumes.
Justin Faur tried to come to Johnson's rescue. Mr. Faur also passed out and fell face first into the pit. He inhaled the liquid into his lungs.
Both men were taken to Mercy Hospital in Clinton and later airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. They're both listed in critical condition.
The manure pit is made up of animal waste and is used to fertilize fields. As the manure breaks down it releases toxic fumes that can injure and kill if inhaled.

Types of Insurance The insurance related to accidents and the resulting injuries would be casualty insurance, such as life and health insurance, and liability insurance. If you have been injured, your casualty insurance company, if any, should be obligated to reimburse and compensate you for your covered losses. And if your injury was caused by someone else, usually that other person's liability insurance company should compensate you for any harm not covered by your own casualty insurance company. However, you may have to sue and have a court determine whether the other person was actually at fault for your injury. Automobile insurance often works this way if there is a question of fault in an accident. The law in this area is controlled largely by your state.
